Mutant/mutation
In the mutant the ma gene of P. berghei has been replaced with the ma gene of P. falciparum by the method of GIMO transfection. The P. falciparum is introduced in mutant RMgm-4733 in which the P. berghei ma gene has been replaced with the positive/negative hdhfr/yfcu selectable marker. The P. falciparum ma gene is under control of the regulatory sequences of P. berghei ma. In addition the mutant expresses the fusion protein GFP-Luciferase under control of the constitutive eef1a promoter

Phenotype
The phenotype has not been analysed in detail. Normal oocyst and sporozoite production. Normal sporozoite infectivity as determined by measuring parasite liver load and prepatent period in mice after intravenous injection of sporozoites
